Lambrecht’s paintings present verbal, chromatic and spatial fragmentations across the canvas. She creates isolated sections of colour, often separating the canvas into roughly rectangular areas that sometimes merge into one another. Large swathes of colour are then underwritten with faint lines and words that import their own meaning to the composition. With pigments, words, and crosses applied over a long period of time, Lambrecht’s paintings reveal the practical methods of their composition; this encourages the viewer to conceive of the time taken, the processes of layering and the significance of the words that remain legible.
