Her ‘Cascaras Lava’ series, in which the artist is photographed encased inside chrysalis-like fabric sculptures, evoke connotations of transformation and of the invisibility of women in history, calling upon the close interconnection between textiles and women’s work. This is conveyed as an active, evolving story; photographing these works in the volcanic landscape of Timanfaya National Park in Lanzarote, the artist says the ‘geological formations give these cocoon beings a perfect place of existence, a space that is also marked by transformation, eruptions and change.’
This builds upon a previous work, Textiles, a series of wearable sculptures which was acquired by Tate in 2022.Provenance
