In ‘Chumaaj ijuala pej [El trabajo cotidiano / The day’s work],’ Alarcón layers a basic Wichí motif of the mountain to conjure a wider landscape and the activities unfolding within it. For the artist, a day’s work includes travelling far to gather the chaguar plant, which is processed, spun, dyed and woven: communal acts repeated through generations of women. This textile is a celebration of the Wichí weavers’ work, inextricably tied to the landscape they live in.Provenance
