Artist representation

Osvaldo Pitoé

We are pleased to announce the representation of Osvaldo Pitoé, an indigenous Nivaclé artists of the Paraguayan Chaco. We will open our 2025 programme with Pitoé's first solo exhibition to date, Towards the Past: Memories of the Gran Chaco, opening 31 January.

Pitoé first came to prominence in Europe with the landmark exhibition Trees (2019) at Fondation Cartier, Paris, which positioned him as an important emerging voice advocating for the preservation of indigenous ways of living in union with the forest and its ecosystems.

This latest addition to the gallery’s roster reflects an ongoing dedication to contemporary indigenous artists working across South America. Cecilia Brunson Projects is the first UK gallery to focus on modern and contemporary Latin American art, promoting the diversity of artistic practices across the region, including artists from indigenous communities engaging with the continent’s cultural ancestry as well as its contemporary social and environmental tensions.

Osvaldo Pitoé’s paintings and drawings are both timeless and urgent, unleashing from memory an environment already irrevocably changed by natural disaster and ecocide. He represents a way of life at the world’s margins with a unique vision and intense depth of emotion. It is a privilege to bring his work to the UK for the first time and to be working in collaboration with the Artes Vivas collective.
