Cecilia Brunson Projects is pleased to announce the representation of Feliciano Centurión. The artist was highlighted in the 33rd Biennial of São Paulo, Brazil, under the title afinidades afetivas [affective affinities] taking place from September 7th to December 9th, 2018, located at the Ibirapuera Park.
Centurión is one of twelve individual artists highlighted in the 33rd Bienal de São Paulo in 2018. The Paraguayan artist, who died from the complications of AIDS in 1996, was a part of the movement called Arte Light which came about in the early 90s and was linked to the Ricardo Rojas Cultural Center in Buenos Aires and Jorge Gumeir Maier. These artists were known for referencing the poetics of the past, revisiting pop art, minimal art and concrete art through use of kitsch and progressive attitudes to sexuality, intimacy and lifestyle. They emerged in tandem with the fall of right wing dictatorships across Latin America and the Soviet bloc beyond.
Cecilia Brunson Projects will be showcasing the first solo exhibition of Feliciano Centurion September 2019.
Feliciano Centurión was born in San Ignacio, Paraguay 1962 and died in Buenos Aires, Argentina 1996. His work can be found in important public and private collections such as Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid; The Blanton Museum of Austin, Texas; The Latin American Art Museum (MALBA), Buenos Aires; The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (MNBA), Buenos Aires; The Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat Art Collection, Buenos Aires; Clarice Oliveira Tavares, New York City; Don Mullins, Austin, Texas; amongst others.
